We are determined that Yonder should better reflect the society we live in. And we want every employee to feel respected, valued and truly able to be themselves.
When we launched Yonder last year, we set out an eight-point plan for how we would prioritise, measure and achieve our diversity and inclusivity ambitions. One of these points focussed on ensuring our recruitment strategy supports our aim of creating a diverse and inclusive business.
10,000 Black Interns is a programme that offers paid work placements across a range of industries to young black people in the UK. It gives them the opportunity to harness skills, gain access to a network of professionals and open pathways into careers that ethnic minorities have historically found difficult to enter – all to drive long-term tangible change.
The initiative aims to help create future black business leaders by broadening horizons and prospects for the black community and enhancing the career prospects of young black people.
Last year, the scheme delivered 501 placements. With over 700 companies across 24 sectors signed up to the 2022 programme, 10,000 Black Interns hopes to place at least 2,000 young black people in paid roles with the intention to repeat the programme for the next 5 years to reach the ultimate goal of providing 10,000 internships to young Black people.
